DRESSING TABLE SET UP

A beautiful dressing table with ample storage space is something I have long been dreaming for! In my last home my dressing table was cluttered, unorganised and generally a bit of an eye-sore. I promised myself that once we'd moved in to the new house, I'd have tonnes of storage so that everything had a place and I wouldn't sink back into messy ways.

My plan for our bedroom has always been to keep it as minimal and de-cluttered as possible. I always find that a minimal, tidy room is so much easier to sleep in and relax. For that reason we only have a bed, bed side tables and my beauty set up and I love it. There's space to breath without it feeling like a museum hall.

The problem however, is that I own A LOT of makeup and not just makeup, I'm a bit of beauty horder in general. It's the typical problem of never having enough nude lipsticks and justifying to myself that this one IS different! I like to have multiples of each product too so I needed to find a storage system that worked for me. Search 'beauty storage' on Pinterest and you'll be met with thousands of beautiful images of makeup storage that is overwhelmingly big! I knew I wanted something compact but with deep enough drawers to store everything. I also wanted everything at arms reach, there's nothing worse when you're running late and you can't find that lipliner. I actually found the makeup storage first after an extensive search on Pinterest, everyone seemed to be using the ALEX IKEA drawers in various sizes. There had to be a reason that everyone loves them so much, not forgetting the reasonable price tag! The day after moving day I popped along to Ikea, picked them up and now I have them I can see why - great in size, not too tall, not too wide and a brilliant depth that is very deceptive. I've kitted mine out with MUJI PP organisers - wow, these are fantastic too! I went for a mix of the kitchen organisers for bigger items and the normal beauty organisers. Again they were a great price and the fit in both my dressing table and Alex Ikea drawers.

I was hunting high and low for the right dressing table for a good couple of months. I knew I wanted something slim, mid century and would compliment the Ikea drawers. I search vintage shops, EBay and the usual high street places and I just couldn't find anything I liked enough. They were either too bulky, too wise, wrong colour, but then I stumbled across Kate La Vie's blog - which I am now obsessed with - and saw her mint green West Elm Mid-Century Mini Desk. I quickly jumped online and found it in white in the John Lewis sale - perfect, job done! I really do love it too. Again it's a lovely size meaning I can spread out when getting ready, the single drawer is minimal but perfect size for my 'everyday makeup' and it's very easily wipe-able for makeup spillages which happen a lot with me.

I finished off the table with another great IKEA find, the Stockholm mirror. It's actually become a bit of a centrepiece for the bedroom now as it's slightly bigger than expected. The size is great for a quick outfit check before leaving the house. I also love the mix of walnut-style wood with gloss white.
Once the table had been built, Alex drawers up and organised, I needed some accessories to finish the space. H&M was my answer for this and they do some brilliantly affordable homeware. I knew I wanted a little table organiser for perfumes so I got this gorgeous worn-gold one, it was only £12.99. I then finished it off with a pink/gold vase (H&M), two cute little pineapple candles and my existing acrylic lipstick organiser. I'm so pleased with how it's turned out and what's more is that it's now so easy to keep tidy.
Thanks so much for reading, expect another bedroom update soon!
