BEDROOM BOUDOIR

Contrary to my deep moody colour scheme in the LOUNGE and DINNING ROOM, the bedroom is all about light, bright colours. Using white as my primary colour, working in Farrow and Ball’s Teressa Green for a feature wall and splashes of blush pink for a feminine touch. I want the space to feel really peaceful, tranquil and calming – after all it is the room we’ll spend most of our time in, even if we are asleep.

To compliment the bright airy theme, I’m really keen to keep the flooring light and bright. I really like white washed oak flooring for this with a slight grey under tone. I think wooden floors are perfect – they look chic and are so much easier to clean than carpets. I will also be on the hunt for a lovely rug so that the room doesn’t echo with excessive noise. *Side note – if anyone knows of any beautiful rugs that match my theme, let me know in the comments below. I’m yet to find one!*. I’ll finish the structure of the room with a large bright white skirting board, like the example below. I really want to keep our bedroom feeling a spacious as possible.

Our bedroom isn’t the biggest room so I’m trying to keep furniture to a minimum – again trying to keep the space nice and peaceful. A Kingsize (finally!) bed will be the centre point of the room laden with beautiful, unique cushions and layered throws for variety of textures. I’ll most likely keep to bright white linens and my forest green velvet cushions (from H&M) and a splash of blush pink with even more cushions. ZARA are great for homeware textiles, I've seen some brilliant embroidered quilts, throws and cushion covers on the website.
The splash of pink is something I’m really excited to play with. It’s a fine line from tipping back into my Barbie bedroom at age 5 so it needs to be balanced with the pale green and forest green for a bit of contrast. I especially love these side lamps from OLIVER BONAS. I love how the wire and marble make the lamp seem a more industrial and masculine whilst balanced with the pink shade.

I do love the lamps but they're a bit pricey for me. Instead they could easily be re-created on a budget with a few items from IKEA. I currently own black side lamps so I may attempt to upcycle these with brass spray paint and a new pink shade. If I do attempt this I'll post a blog about it.

Speaking of IKEA hacks… I’m obsessed with them on Pinterest! I’m yet to try one so it could be the typical Pinterest vs real life scenario, however I've watched some really good YouTube videos and some turn out really well. An IKEA hack I keep seeing is how to upgrade a VITTSJO laptop table. This cheap little console table is the chameleon of IKEA furtniture – it’s just brilliant! Not only is it great value for money at £30, it comes in black and white and is very slim so perfect for smaller spaces. Here are a few iterations that I love…
I’ve also seen bloggers upcycling the LEIFARNE chair with brass spray paint and overlaid the small TEJN IKEA rug for brilliant luxe chair. I have sen some beautiful cocktail chairs my dressing table but they're quite expensive and low to the ground. I'm hoping I can re-create that look for a lot less. The chair is just £35 and rug £10. Let’s just pray that I can keep my grubby make up hands off the beautiful sheepskin rug!

To finish off my dressing table area, I’m going with the classic white IKEA draws to store my hoard of make-up and a beautiful rose gold pebble mirror from OLIVER BONAS.

To give the room some character I’m going to create a wall-art shelf stacked with some of my favourite prints and life quotes. The best thing about a wall-art shelf is that you can swap and change the images without the permanency of knocking holes in the wall. It’s something you could even change seasonally.

Come back soon to see how more updates on how my bedroom is getting along from design to finish product. Thanks for reading!
