DINING ROOM INSPIRATION

As mentioned in my LOUNGE INSPIRATION post, I want the lounge and dining room to follow a similar theme but have a differing identity. I will keep the deep blue colour on a feature wall but overall it'll have a more glamorous feel with Art Deco and 1920s styling.

My inspiration for this look came from a recent visit to The Ivy in London. I loved the decadent style of beautifully crafted bars and tables with luxe velvet seating and gleaming cut glass. (Definitely worth a visit!)

To balance the room so it doesn't look like a restaurant or cocktail bar, i'll mix the Art Deco theme with industrial cues such a dark wood table and filament lighting above the dining table.

Mixing two opposing themes like Art Deco and industrialism is something I'm really excited for - it's all about getting the right balance between the two and keeping to similar colour tones. Mixing a sturdy wooden, mahogany table with feature chairs will add a splash of personality to the room. Here are a few examples I love from SWOON EDITIONS below.

I'm also after a show stopping light fixture to sit above the dining table. I'm not the type of girl to go after a chandelier, it's a little too chintzy for me. Instead, I want exposed wire hangings and multiple layered lights for impact! I have seen some beautiful filament cluster lights on WEST ELM. Here are a few ideas I love from Pinterest...

So that the industrial dining table doesn't feel out of place, I'm really keen to get a Persian rug to sit under the table, I think it'll add a really nice 'lived-in' feel to the room. I know a lot of places that sell them new but I'm after a second hand one so it's a little bit beaten, worn and the colours arn't so vivid. I've seen some beautiful pale blue rugs that would work brilliantly with the deep petrol blue colours I'm hoping to use throughout the lounge and dining room (see my LOUNGE INSPIRATION post here for more detail).

We have a great little annex in the dining room that sits under the stairs and between a storage cupboard. To make use of this area I want a floor-to-ceiling bookcase. My previous home was rented so meant that we were never able to put anything on the walls, and as a result I've been longing for a bookcase to showcase my favourite cookery books, coffee table books that I've been saving and cute little accessories like photo frames, succulents and candles.

Depending on what dining chairs I go for, I'd also like to get an armchair to sit next to the bookshelf. I'd like to style this with a small vintage side table and lamp for a cosy feel. This could be a chill out area to sit and read or just as extra seating for guests. I do love the Oliver Bonas velvet chairs but again, this will be dependent on what dining chairs I go for. I can't have a complete velvet overload, I think it should be subtle.

The final and most exciting area of my dining room will be a bar cart, but expect a another post to detail my love affair for this.

Take a look at a few of my other favourite dining room designs and layouts that I've found on Pinterest below.
